Good Deeds: Nanaimo residents rappel down 13-storey building for charityDanielle Bell, The Daily NewsPublished: Monday, September 20, 2010Two Nanaimo residents dangled for dollars to help disabled children in B.C. On Thursday, Thomas Rivett of Linkatech Technologies Inc and Dawn Plavetic of Century 21 Icarus Realty, joined the Drop Zone event in Victoria. They were among 58 participants who risked their lives to raise money for the Easter Seals Drop Zone Event which is held across the country. The brave pair had to rappel off a 13-story CIBC building to support the Easter Seals Charity of B.C.
Participants canvassed their communities for financial and community support for the adrenalin-charged challenge. More than $100,000 was raised at the drop zone event in Victoria alone this year. Fundraising efforts by Rivett and Plavetic accounted for more than $3,000 of that total. The pair hope to capitalize on its success and bring the thrill-seeking event to Nanaimo next year. They hope to bring together surrounding communities for the event, which raises money to help disabled children and their families in British Columbia. |
